The Organic Butcher of McLean
About This Spot
Stepping into The Organic Butcher of McLean feels like entering a cherished neighborhood market where the rhythm slows and quality takes center stage. The space hums with a quiet energy—friendly voices softly discussing cuts, the gentle hum of refrigeration cases, and the faint, inviting aroma of fresh herbs and cured meats. It’s the kind of place where each visit feels intentional, a pause from the rush to seek something crafted with care.
Here, the experience revolves around more than just picking up dinner. It’s about the moment spent choosing, the conversation with knowledgeable butchers who understand the story behind each cut, and the feeling of trust that comes from knowing your food is thoughtfully sourced. Whether it’s a carefully trimmed American Wagyu steak destined for a backyard campfire or a selection from the vibrant seafood market, every item hints at a story of craftsmanship and respect for ingredients.
Beyond meat, the shop’s curated corner of produce, artisanal groceries, and a handpicked collection of wines and craft beers invites discovery. It’s easy to imagine strolling these aisles with a cooler in hand, allowing the warm atmosphere to nudge you toward a new favorite—perhaps a compound butter to elevate a steak or an unexpected bottle to pair with a meal shared among friends.
The sense of community here is palpable. Regulars return week after week, drawn by the consistent quality and a staff whose enthusiasm quietly enhances every visit. This is a place where specialty cuts feel accessible rather than exclusive, and where every interaction leaves you a little more connected to the food and the people behind it.

Quality meats all the way. Each time I buy meat at the Organic Butcher shop, I know the quality will be a treat for our family. Look at the schedule attached. Thank you

I can't say enough good things about this place. I've been making the 1½ hr drive once a month for a little over 5 hrs now. All of their products are top quality, you can really taste the difference. If you like waygu beef or ever wanted to try a waygu steak, this is your place. They will cut your meats to order, but also offer pre-cut portions as well.

Look the other reviews already tell you how great this place is… I’m here to tell you to bring a cooler or a cold bag and the will to not want to buy everything. Their wagyu (American/Australian) phenomenal! We got a tomahawk for the first time and let me tell you (we aren’t perfect) but it was very forgiving. It came out so good! These steaks really only need salt pepper and some beef tallow to sear it with (they sell that there too, it’s amazing quality). We Sous vide the New York strips we got and holy crap it was melting in our mouths. Also learn from my mistakes: don’t freeze wagyu, cook it the same day you buy it.

I’ve been shopping at The Organic Butcher for almost a year and a half now, and I’m there nearly every single week. The American Wagyu cuts are truly exceptional, consistently high quality, and very fairly priced compared to other local options. The compound butter is outstanding and always a staple for me. Just as impressive is the staff. They’re knowledgeable, friendly, and genuinely care about the product and their customers. I’ll be a loyal customer for as long as I’m in the area.

Honestly, the best ribeye I’ve ever had in my life. Cooked it over campfire to medium rare and it was perfect. The beef mix for the burger patties was also excellent. I’m glad I was patient and waited in line.

The Organic Butcher of McLean is the spot for anyone who takes their health — and their taste buds — seriously. It’s not your average butcher shop; it’s more like a curated experience for meat lovers. From bison and ostrich to a great selection of seafood, they’ve got it all. But what really sets them apart is how they treat their customers. The team here doesn’t just sell you meat — they get to know you, your preferences, and what you’re cooking up. It’s like walking into a friend’s kitchen where they always have the best recommendations. They’re absolute gurus when it comes to sourcing top-quality, organic options. And if you’re a bread lover (who isn’t?), you’re in luck. They carry fresh sourdough delivered straight from A Baked Joint in DC. It’s the kind of bread that makes you question why you ever settled for grocery store loaves. If you’re looking for that rare blend of expertise and genuine hospitality, this is your place. Whether you’re trying something adventurous or sticking to the classics, The Organic Butcher of McLean makes every visit feel like you’re part of the family. Highly recommend! Pro tip: buy the ostrich and bison ground beef, mix together to make meatballs and smoke them using a crockpot with a built in smoker or just a regular outdoor smoker….amazing!!

Love this place. This is one of our favorite places to go shopping. Love what The Organic Butcher of Mclean does everyday. It was perfect! Love that they also carry emerging brands like West Indies Peppa Sauce (WIPS).We got some chicken and did a whole marinade and added in some WIPS with it and threw it on the grill. Absolutely incredible!

The Organic Butcher is hands-down THE place to consistently get the highest quality beef, lamb, pork, poultry, and fish. My wife and I have been shopping here for years and we are always able to have better meals at home than at the finest restaurants in the MVD area - and that starts with getting the best cuts we cook with. Their wagyu ribeye is a fave of ours, as are their lamb chops we affectionately call "Meat Lollipops". They also have a great selection of bacon and sausages, and the fresh seasonal corn they put out is a Fall delight. Oh! And don't miss their tomahawk steaks when they have them - in fact, try any special item as in doing so you are bound to find you have a new favorite food.
